who was born in Jamaica and moved to New Orleans in 1836. In 1839, he visited Texas and settled in Galveston the same year, later moving to Houston. He traveled extensively throughout Texas, buying up land which he sold to easterners and Europeans. The town of Granbury, Texas was settled in the early 1860's when settlers from Tennessee settled on the banks of the Brazos River in what was still Indian territory. Approximately one hundred years later, in the 1960's, the Brazos River Authority dammed up the Brazos River near Granbury to prevent flooding downstream. The reservoir formed by that dam is also known as Lake Granbury. Decordova Bend Estates was begun the same year construction on the dam was begun. Along with elegant homes, the development offers a country club, swimming pool, tennis courts, and a 27 hole golf course.
